Which subject is optional for the IAS exam?
A list of optional subjects for the civil services test is provided by UPSC. Candidates must select one option for the main exam. There are two papers in the optional topic, each worth 250 Marks. The list of elective courses, which also includes literature courses (in English and Indian languages), is available to candidates.
The exam papers will all be descriptive. The UPSC mains exam will have three hours allotted for each paper. Only Hindi and English will be used for the question papers, except the literature and language papers. The UPSC the main exam depends heavily on the optional paper.
The question is, “How many optional subjects are there in the UPSC exam?” This table indicates the number of optional subjects.
A list of 48 optional subjects, including literature in many languages, is provided by the UPSC Mains syllabus. Candidates must select one “Optional Subject” from the following list of subjects:

List of literature optional subjects in UPSC CSE
Even if they had not taken literature as a graduation subject, applicants may still choose it as an option for UPSC Mains. Two papers are scheduled. Every paper has 250 marks. The Indian Constitution’s Eighth Schedule includes the languages that are listed here.
